The Haji Ali Dargah is a tomb and a mosque that is named after Pir Haji Ali Bukhari, one of the greatest Muslim saints of his time.

At least 40.000 people come here on Thursdays and Fridays. At this holy place, everyone is considered equal, regardless of religion and caste.

The 85-fit high meter is the identity of this dargah, the outer walls of the mosque and the dargah are painted white.

The mosque has Pir Haji Ali Baba's tomb which is decorated with red and green sheets. 

There is a circle made of silver sticks around the tomb.

In the main hall, there are many pillars made of marble, they are painted with coloured glass and 99 names of Allah have been mentioned.

Sometimes, especially on Friday, Qawwali performs devotional music by performing various Sufi music.

Here, according to the transition of Islam for both men and women, women enter through the eastern and men through the south hall. 

There is a separate hall for women to pray and take rest for a while, all men are required to remove their shoes before entering the shrine.

History of 'Haji Ali Dargah'


This Haji Ali dargah, built in 1431 is full of mystery, no matter how much storm there is there, a wave a this dargah does not sink, it adds to this mystery even more, a road of cement attached to the dargah.

The road is completely submerged in water when the high waves come into the sea.

And it is closed immediately but the surprising thing is that not a single drop of water waves can go inside the dargah. Let's know this secret history of the dargah.

Sufi saint, Sayyed Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari was a wealthy merchant, he was from a prosperous family. 

Pir Haji Ali Baba along with his brother reached Mumbai while visiting India.

And propagated the religion of Islam and did many noble deeds.

After this, when his brother asked him to go home, he refused. He said l will stay here to help the poor people and promote Islam. Haji Ali Baba had fallen in love with that place.

Haji Ali Baba helped many poor people by staying there and also preached Islam religion he devoted his whole life to the worship of Allah. 

Later pir baba went on a Mecca pilgrimage and donated his entire property and everything to the poor. 

It is said that Saint Haji Ali Baba had said that after my death, my body shroud not be buried in the grave.

Put in a coffin and put in an Ocean

The surprising thing is that the coffin in which his body was floating stopped on the rocks of a small island near Worli in Mumbai where Haji Ali Baba used to live, today his dargah is what we call Haji Ali dargah. 

Many people come here every day, and the wishes made with a sincere heart are fulfilled.

Haji Ali Dargah is easily accessible by road and train. The most convenient way to reach this holy place is by train.

By train:

The western line can reach Mahalaxmi station by local train. Haji Ali Dargah is at a distance of 2 kilometers from here, you can take a cab or taxi to the Dargah.

And to go to Haji Ali Dargah from the Central Line, you can board the train to Byculla Railway Station and from there you can easily go to the Dargah.

by bus

By airline

The nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, it is at least 20 kilometres away from here you can easily reach by cab taxi or bus.
