Gateway of India history


For the first time in 1911, before the independence of India, the construction of this monument was planned.

The gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of king george and Queen Mary of Britain, they had landings here during the journey.

The monument began to be built in 1920 and was completed in 1924.

Before the construction of this monument, this place was used by fishermen for fishing.

When the gateway of India was approved, the place was cleared of fishermen.

The country became independent in 1947, when the British state ended, then the British went out of the gateway of India.

This monument was built to welcome the great British officers and for the landing of ships.

Opened to the public on 4 December 1924 by Rufus Isaacs, viceroy of India 

Its height is 26 meters 85 feet and the diameter of the dome is 15 meter 49 feet.

It took about 21 lakh rupees to build this monument and it has been given by the government of India.

The structure of this monument located in Mumbai is rectangular in shape.built in indo - saracenic style,

In preparing it, this work he's been done keeping in mind both Hindu - muslim architecture and yellow basalt rocks have been used to build this monument.

The monument has an inscription that reads "Erected to commemorate that landing in India of their Imperial Majesties king George V and Queen Mary on the second of December MCMXI".

Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus is the famous station of Mumbai. Every day trains run from all day states of India to Mumbai,it is 30 km away from chhatrapati shivaji terminus (CST) sation gateway of India,if you travel from any state of India, then you can reach Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus station or Mumbai Central station by getting down at any of these two stations, you can easily reach gateway of India by taxi.
