Elephanta Caves is located in the Indian site of Maharashtra. It is located on the island of DmgharPuri,about 11 km from the city of Mumbai.

This Island is situated in the part of the Arabian sea, it is originally known as Gharapuri Island.



Here is the biggest Trimurti statue of Lord Shiva, it is 24 feet tall. In this Trimurti the three forms of Lord Shiva are Shown in a very brilliantly.

Going to the cave  with that, a lot of  effort has been made to destroy many of the statues here, but the statue here was  so solid that it could not be completely destroyed.

Elephanta Cave is a symbol of Hindu culture, it is on the island in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai, these seven caves have become an attractive collection in architecture in itself.


Why are the elephanta famous in Mumbai?


     Elephanta Caves is divided into two parts one part is associated with Hinduism and the second part is associated with buddhism  religion.

These sculptures made by cutting the mountain are inspired by South Indian Murti art.

UNESCO  included it in the list of world Heritage in 1987.

  • The best time to visit Elephanta Caves is from September to March, you will not be able to enjoy the summer season.

  • If you visit in February, then you can enjoy the Elephanta Caves festival it is a two day culture festival showcasing the specialty of featuring regional music and dance programmes.

  • And you can't even have fun by going to the summer time. It was very hot at that time, many people like to travel even in the rainy season.

  • The attraction of Elephanta Caves increase during the rainy season ferry (boats) may be closed due to heavy rainy weather.


How to reach Elephanta Caves Mumbai?

 

  • You can easily reach Elephanta Cave from any part of Mumbai.

  • From any area of Mumbai, you can come to Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus and you can also come to Gateway of India by bus or cab.

  • On the opposite side of the bus stand, from there you will get the ticket for ferry  Elephanta Caves at a reasonable price from the ticket counter, it will be around 225, otherwise you may incur higher charges of taking tickets from Gateway of India like around 300.

  • After this you have to take a ferry from the journey of the fairy tax at least 1 hour.

Monday - closed

 Saturday - 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Elephanta Caves Entry ticket price

600 Rs. per person for other foreign citizens.

40 Rs.for Indian citizens.


Elephanta ferry open :

The first ferry leaves the Gateway of India pier at 9:00 a.m. and the last one at 2:00 p.m.

And closed on Monday.
